April 2012 Newsletter

We have officially welcomed Spring! The trees are budding and the Cherry Blossoms are bringing color back into our world. Did you know that Japan brought over the first cherry blossom trees in 1912 as a gift to the United States? Today, there are annual Cherry Blossom Festivals across the US celebrating Japanese Culture.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first Cherry Blossom to be planted and there are festivals around the world.

The 2012 San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival will take place in April in the Japantown neighborhood. The cherry blossom tree is a living testament of international friendship and the splendor of nature. If you have a cherry blossom tree in your neighborhood, it surely brings its beauty to your landscaping!

As you look around your neighborhood, most of the trees are beginning to wake from the winter slumber and sprout buds. If you haven’t pruned for the coming season, now is the time to get it done. It is important that your tree start off right so that it has a structure to grow and thrive in the coming months. If you still aren’t sure, have us come and give your property a walkthrough. We recommend that you have a trained and licensed arborist inspect all the trees in order to guarantee their safety as well as your property’s safety. Owning trees, much like owning a house is a long term commitment and an investment you don’t want to overlook. Give us a call today and we will schedule your free estimate!

Spring is also the time when the dreaded caterpillars emerge and begin to feast on the leaves of all of the trees. It is better to treat them now rather than later when the damage becomes apparent. We are putting our schedule together now and want to be sure we reach all of our customers. Give us a call today to make sure you are on our list!

If you have any other questions or some trees that need attention, please call the office at 650-200-2495 today so we can get working for you!

We love to get customer feedback! If you have been pleased with our service, we want to hear. You can also place a review on Yelp.com! We love to get positive reviews, and we hope you can take a moment to let everyone about our wonderful work.

At Econo Tree Service, we are entering into high gear with winter pruning. As you have probably noticed, the leaves are off the trees, and you can really see the structures of all the trees. Pruning the trees now makes way for new growth in the Spring.

With the lack of rain in December, trees are not getting the proper water they need to thrive. Be sure to water the trees as needed and only when the ground is cool and not frozen. This will help the trees to survive the winter months and get ready for their lush return in the Spring.

With the new year coming, we will be offering a year round pest management program. We start in the later Winter with a dormant spray. In March, we inject the tree roots with a pesticide that protects the trees from leaf sucking insects, and boring insects. In April, we spray a Spring spray that kills caterpillars and other pests that eat leaves and can cause damage to the tree. In May, we start our fertilizing program, which provides nutrients to trees to support growth through the Spring and Summer. If you have Oak trees on your property, this is the time of year to protect them from Sudden Oak Death if you have never treated your Oaks before. In June, we reach out to all of our customers to check on the health of their trees, and reapply any treatment if necessary. In September, we fertilize the large trees again to be sure that they are getting the proper nutrients they need to flourish. And finally, in October and November, we treat the Oaks again for Sudden Oak Death. Once the Oaks are treated, they will only need to be treated annually.

If you would like to participate in our program, we would be more than happy to assist you. We can take a full inventory of your trees and determine what the best course of action would be to keep your trees healthy and looking beautiful. Please call our office today to find out about this pest management program.

And finally at Econo Tree Service, we pride ourselves in all of our workers being trained on proper pruning and safety procedures. We hope this helps you make the right choice when working on your property. We have seen the damage untrained workers can do to trees, and want to be sure this doesn’t happen to your trees. As our saying goes, “Don’t let tree hackers land you with expensive repairs, call Econo Tree Service today!

Time for winter pruning!

As we move into the cold and stormy winter months, the trees in our area become dormant. When trees become dormant, the growth and development of the tree are temporarily stopped. When the tree loses it’s leaves and the tree becomes bare, it is easier to see the structure of the tree which makes pruning easier. It is also a good time to prune because insects and disease that have the potential to harm a tree are also dormant. Pruning during winter improves regrowth in the spring.

As the weather grows colder, the trees become brittle and the potential for broken branches increases. Broken and damaged branches could become a major hazard and safety concern for any property (or people!) that is in the tree’s path.

We have also helped customers who have already had broken branches fall on their property in the last few weeks. We were able to come and evaluate what neeed to be pruned in order for the tree to become safe and cleaned up their property and cleared away any hazards that may have arose. It is important that the tree be inspected after a branch has fallen to ensure that there are no other potential issues.

Econo Tree Service is here and ready to help you with any winter pruning needs. If you have a fallen branch on your property, please call us right away so we can send an estimator to your property to inspect the damage. We can get working right away on clearing your property and pruning the remainder of the tree to ensure that there are no other hazards that may affect you.
